Recap: 8th Annual Walk for Parkinson's
The 8th Annual Walk for Parkinson’s began on a warm and sunny spring morning, April 18, in front of Lloyd Hall in the Art Museum Area of Philadelphia. The Walk progressed down Kelly Drive to the tune of bag pipers leading the way after an exciting send off by Dave Murphy, weatherman for Channel 6 Action News. More than 700 walkers joined the Phillie Phanatic for a 10-mile walk in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park.
Months of planning by the Walk committee guided by Kathy Lardani and Christina Lupo produced gross revenues of $160,000 donated by sponsors, teams and individuals with more donations continuing to filter in. This year’s response to the Walk was fabulous – we had an astounding 28 new teams participate which brought us to a record-breaking 72 teams! Funds raised from the Walk will be distributed within our Parkinson Disease community for research, education and awareness.
The Parkinson Council and 2009 Walk Committee would like to extend sincere gratitude to all of those that helped make this year’s Walk such a success!
