Honoring Our Unsung Parkinson’s Heroes
This year’s 9th Annual Parkinson’s Golf Classic honors all those with Parkinson’s Disease and the people who care about them—the ones who support and encourage their dignity and determination on a daily basis, as well as those who work behind the scenes.
We salute these people as our “2008 Honorees.”
You can support this exciting event through your participation as a player or as a donor through our official ad book. All proceeds from the event and ad book go directly towards Parkinson’s Disease research, support and education including programs right here at this hospital.

Tournament History
Eight years ago, a young Philadelphia lawyer decided to create a golf tournament whose proceeds would benefit Parkinson’s research.
David Halpern’s love of the game, and his admiration for his father’s courage in battling Parkinson’s disease quickly energized many important people in the Parkinson’s community. He was soon joined in his efforts by Jan Albert, one of the area’s leading women amateur golfers, whose mother had been stricken by the disease, and Rob Cantor and Jim Kay, local business leaders, whose lives had also been impacted by this disease.
Each consecutive year has brought continued success to this tournament. The events have been held in the area’s leading golf facilities. Philadelphia Country Club, Green Valley Country Club, Philmont Country Club and Saucon Valley Country Club have all played host to this event. The Parkinson’s Golf Classic is considered one of the area’s premier charity golf tournaments.
As a former honoree, I will tell you that your decision will help more people than you can ever imagine. Our tournament has a reputation of being about more than money, it is about caring and that feeling permeates the entire day.

Since my diagnosis I have learned to live with the affliction. Thanks to the continuing efforts of the Center’s research and clinical drug trials, they have been able to slow this insidious disease that also affects my family and friends each and every day. As a beneficiary of the Movement Disorder Center’s research team, I have discovered a community of caring and giving people whose lives are motivated by the common goal of finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease in my lifetime.

The Center has developed an initiative to study pre-clinical Parkinson’s disease. This exciting project aims to identify individuals at risk for developing Parkinson’s disease with the eventual hope of delaying or preventing disease onset.
This ground-breaking research is made possible because of the very active support of the Parkinson’s Golf Classic Committee and The Parkinson Council.
